Community foundations around the world
Melbourne Community Foundation was established in 1997 and was the first independent public foundation in Australia. It has A$25 million funds under management and has distributed in excess of A$4 million in grants to date.
Vancouver Community Foundation, established in 1950, manages
around Cdn$610 million, with around $40 million available
for grants each year. Its main focus is youth, arts, environment,
education and social development projects in the Vancouver
region.
Calderdale Community Foundation was established in Yorkshire
in 1991. It will award over Aud$3 million in grants this
financial year, primarily focusing on child poverty, the
disadvantaged, and community development throughout Yorkshire.
Silicon Valley Community Foundation is a recent merger between Community Foundation Silicon Valley and the Peninsula Community Foundation with assets of nearly $1billion and annual grants exceeding $100 million.
New York Community Trust was founded nearly 80 years ago
and has US$2 billion under management. Its major projects
include assistance for those infected with AIDS, immigrants,
and education.
Toronto Community Foundation has 150 donor-advised funds,
and its assets total Cdn$84 million. It has distributed
Cdn$17.3 million in grants, in the past 2 years.
