How you can become involved

Anyone – individuals or organisations – can donate to the Sydney Community Foundation. The Foundation welcomes donations of all sizes – every dollar makes a difference.

Your options for smart giving are:

1. Make a gift

Your tax deductible donation to the Sydney Community Foundation Tax Deductible Fund can be of any size. Grants from the earnings on this fund are determined by the SCF's Board in response to expressions of interest for funding received.

2. Set up a Sub-Fund

You can set up a tax deductible sub-fund within the SCF's Tax Deductible Fund on the understanding that it will reach a minimum amount of $50,000 within a five year period. You can name the sub-fund and make requests to the Board about how the income is to be distributed.

If you do not require a tax deduction, your subfund can be set up within the SCF's General Fund. Earnings on the capital in this fund can be distributed to a wider range of charitable organisations who don't have Deductible Gift Recipient status.

For further information on how a sub-fund can be established, please see: Establish a sub-fund.

3. Leave a Bequest in your Will

The Sydney Community Foundation offers an ideal way to leave a bequest in your Will that will take account of your future funding wishes and be carefully managed to benefit local people in your community forever. It will also associate your name with the community you lived in and loved.

After providing for family and friends in your Will, an increasing number of people are considering leaving a proportion of their estate to help others in their local community. Please call the SCF office for further information.

4. Volunteer

From time to time the SCF recruits volunteers, either for specific, one-off tasks, or for ongoing roles. We recruit through Volunteering NSW or through goodcompany. If you would like to volunteer your skills for the SCF, please check these websites for vacancies.

5. Organise a fundraising event

The SCF's purpose is to connect people who care with causes that matter to Sydney. If you would like to get your friends together to raise some funds for distribution by the Sydney Community Foundation, please call us to discuss your plans.
