Breaking the poverty cycle in Sydney
Across Sydney struggling locals are accessing education and employment with support from Sydney Community Foundation.
Through generous donations to Sydney Community Foundation we’ve granted more than $3 million to grassroots Sydney charities.
Changemakers we fund understand what their communities need and find innovative ways through skills and education to give dignity, belonging and hope to people who need it.
Because, when children, teenagers, adults and parents feel safe, they go back to school or get a job and look after their family. Together, we’re building stronger, safer communities.
For over a decade, generous donors have helped us give families hope, and the chance to breakout of the poverty cycle.
Educate & empower
Our community partners work with people, one-by-one, focusing on people with greatest need or programs in postcodes of disadvantage, tailoring support to the unique needs of each person or community.
Our secret? Our community knowledge, our local champions and the multi-year funding and capacity building we give. We stay and are independent. Enabling the flexibility for changemakers creates pilot programs and innovation. Every donation contributes to a new opportunity for a family or a person who believes in a better future.
By supporting Sydney Community Foundation you are part of their solution. Together, we’ve attracted $6 million to support multi-year place-based philanthropy that is bringing skills, education, employment and security to Sydneysiders in need.
Janette is a wife, a mother, and now sewing machinist from Syria. Arriving to Australia with three teenagers she did not know anyone or have opportunity to work.
Thanks to our Sydney Women’s Fund donors at Sydney Community Foundation, Janette accessed a sewing class and mentorship program with Australian design house Ginger & Smart and now works part time at The Social Outfit.
“There is no limit in the life to learn."
Janette now feels safe and optimistic about the future, for herself and her children. That’s the power of opportunity.
Over half a million Sydneysiders are living in poverty.
