The Miranda Project is an innovative, gender specific approach to crime prevention targeting women with complex needs at risk of offending and re-offending. It does this through a holistic, inclusive support service.
Building on success in 2017, Creative Miranda is the expressive arts program for women attending Miranda’s Place in Chippendale. The activities complement the therapeutic and hard practical work the women do to overcome barriers to positive living in the community.
Funds raised will buy materials paint, canvas, cloth, beads and thread, in beautiful colours and textures, with accompanying machines and tools for workshops. These will enable talented volunteers to offer women experiences of creating art and craft, some for the time ever, in a safe, happy environment.
Presents for children, domestic violence Grab Bags and self-soothing objects for themselves and others, jewellery, knitting, sewing and more will be made possible through this grant.
This grant will also enable the purchase of Grab Bag essentials such as phone cards and survival basics for inclusion in the bags.
Designed as a diversionary option, participants in the Miranda Program will gain resilience, make connections and engage in positive activity to become a productive member of the community.
Art @The Miranda Project is run by Community Restorative Centre (CRC).
