It has been shocking to follow the statistics in the Our Watch (link is external) campaign launched recently by Australia’s Ambassador for Women and Girls, Natasha Stott-Despoja.
“Violence against women is a national emergency – one women is killed almost every week, by a current or former partner in Australia” Natasha Stott-Despoja.
“One in every three women has experienced a physical attack and figures from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research show domestic violence reports at a 15-year high, despite a decline in all other major offences”. (SMH, Sept 6)
Sydney Women’s Fund is supporting its aims for better women’s safety through a study to build on our 2012 research The Portrait of Women and Girls in Greater Sydney.
This new piece of research will shine a light on the wicked problems facing women in our city and be a framework for some future granting and our advocacy role for prevention of violence against women.
